106th Day: Boente - O Pedrouzo

已發表: 22.07.2019

The 16th week since my departure from Arnstadt begins. The general mood is hopeful, the big goal is imminent.

Jan, my French friend and fellow pilgrim, is back in front of a café in the morning after three and a half weeks since Le Puy, "waiting" for me:

It's a joyful reunion! He will cover the 40 km to Santiago that same day, before heading to Finisterra.

Anyone who thinks that the path must be enriched with highlights near the goal is mistaken. Those who seek refuge will also find it on this day.

Small villages alternate, eucalyptus forests, palm trees and cacti characterize the landscape.

The 32 km are not really far, I walk with Ullrich, Lukas is a bit weak, but he also arrives with some distance.

River idyll

The distance to the goal is reduced every 2 hours

The nature has completely changed, much for the eye:

I record my last (material) loss: my water bottle for the backpack (the simultaneous arrival of Hanna and Lukas confused me😉).

I am already in the hostel at 2 p.m. and can put my feet up:

So I still have the opportunity to receive the last pilgrim blessing in the evening mass with Brian from Australia.

Everything is excited, Santiago is waiting - only 20 km left!
My talisman and companion, the chain of Cor and Henny, has been lost or forgotten since Thursday, which has made me infinitely sad. My companion since the first day of my pilgrimage. After reflecting on it, I can only have lost/forgotten it in Alto do Poio. I activate Helene and her fellow runners to ask again.
Ullrich comforts me and it helps me immensely with the translation of the loss for me:
"A talisman comes unexpectedly and goes unexpectedly!"
For me, too, a consolation: Henny and Cor have led me and guided me for over 2800 km, now they wanted to tell me: Now you don't need our help anymore, you can do it on your own - we're still with you!
