28th and 29th June 2021

In the night of June 28th, I couldn't sleep until after 3:00 am. I don't know why. But there is a new herd of cows near us. Together with the livestock guardian dogs, they constantly outdo each other. At some point in the morning, I fell asleep. Nick was so kind and mucked out alone in the morning and let me sleep a little longer. Shortly after I got up, we were called by the stud management. It was about helping to separate the horses so that they can receive tick and worm treatments, have an ultrasound done on the breeding mares, and measure the height of the young horses. For this, they were all driven in with the cars from the pastures. Now is the moment when you can study my drawing... All the horses came into 'Waiting Room 1'. From there, Nick and I sorted some horses into 'Waiting Room 2' in portions. Then we drove a maximum of 2 mares with foals into the anteroom of the manga. Everything I described was done there. If the horse could go out again, it was released from the manga and let into 'Waiting Area 3'. If the mare had to 'stay inside' because she will be covered soon, she was brought back in through 'Waiting Areas 1 + 2'. And so on. Actually not the most demanding task. But since the visitors were apparently overwhelmed with this task, Nick and I did the job with 60 horses (without foals). It took a whole day. In the middle of it, it turned out that 1 horse should go to Switzerland... Nick managed to lead her down to our horses - even though she is not halter-trained yet. She was harnessed in the manga... Currently, we can't touch her. She is together with my mare Fly, who is always nice to everyone. We will gradually integrate her into the group. Take a look for yourself, Nick once again did a great job to prevent injuries from a slow integration. Unfortunately, there are no electric fences here.

Since our last hay contribution, we didn't have hay again yesterday evening for the 3rd time! At noon it was 'en una hora'/in one hour... In the evening shortly before eight 'un poco más tarde'/a little later. At 11:00 p.m. there was obviously nothing again. I then vented my anger in a 5-minute voice message to the stud management, even though it certainly didn't bring me hay. Nick once again went to get hay with the horse trailer... Then we had unexpected visit from a new friend. One of the livestock guardian dogs, a female, came to us. A huge beast, stinky, drooling, hungry (Nick says she probably eats half a calf every month), but a really sweet darling! We gave her something to eat, disinfected her paw wounds, and stroked her. She stayed with us in front of the caravan for a while and barked one more time. Afterwards, our clothes went into the laundry and we took a shower. She smells awful! Then she disappeared back out into the pastures at some point. We also visited her buddy and brought chicken leftovers. This poor guy has been in a kennel for over a month now (you can watch him lose muscle mass). I would love to take them all with me, but well...

This morning the hay finally arrived. When we wanted to go shopping, everything was closed...? The Spaniards have a lot more holidays than we do...We googled it. It's some day of the holy San Pedro, bullfighting is taking place though!

That's why we're back again now and will do these things sometime tomorrow. 2 of the horses we worked with will go to Austria and Germany. Since it is never clear when the transporters with their trucks will be exactly there, we will be flexible.

The vet is not coming today, maybe tomorrow or the day after... But I'm quite happy. As I can feel Fly's wound in her nose, it is getting smaller. I don't think and hope that we don't have to stitch it up. Sarina also got a wound on her leg...probably from some sharp object. But we cleaned it and glued it ourselves... that should heal fine. Nick is feeling sick today, so we're not doing too much. He's lying on the bed and using his phone. I'm writing the blog, then studying again. If we still feel like it, we'll do something with our horses. Despite Fly's accident, we still let them out, they enjoy it!
