First contact with Beppo

The idea of traveling through the country in a camper van already occurred to me for the first time when I made the obligatory trip to Australia and New Zealand after graduating from high school. Together with my best buddy, we lived in a van converted into a camper for 2 months. The conversion of these buses was simple and served only as a means to an end. Nevertheless, a bed, a stove, a cooler box, some dishes and cutlery were enough to take care of ourselves during this time. The independence and flexibility of these buses was probably what fascinated me the most. That's why I occasionally looked for the classic 'Bulli' after my trip.

Since the VW T models all have their separate price, such a bus was simply too expensive for me in my current situation.

I didn't come up with the idea of converting/building a van until May of this year when a fellow student proudly sent me a picture of his newly acquired Mercedes 308 (fire truck) and told me about an intermediary in Frankfurt.

So I started searching the internet for decommissioned fire trucks. Attractive here was especially the mileage and the general condition of the car.

In the dealer's advertisement, I found an LT35 that matched exactly what I imagined as a camper van.

It didn't take much persuasion and I had convinced Yasemin of my alternative idea for the planned world trip. On May 26th we drove to Frankfurt to take a close look at the LT.

Well, what can I say? We were quickly convinced of the car shown, like when buying a puppy, and therefore quickly fell in love with Beppo. Within three days we completed the purchase and started planning the camper conversion.
