Day 35: Kangaroo Island (Flinders Chase National Park / Remarkable Rocks & Admirals Arch - Vivonne Bay - Hanson Bay)

已發表: 29.11.2016

We wake up early and head to the coast. We want to admire the Rocks and the Arch again in the morning light. On the drive, Michi spots a koala bear right by the roadside. Unfortunately, it gets startled and hides in the bushes. There isn't a single cloud in the sky, and there are also very few people around. We enjoy the morning sun at the Rocks and have breakfast afterwards at the parking lot. It's busier near the rock cave.

By noon, we head back east towards Vivonne Bay. We want to check out the bay as we are considering staying there for a night. The kids sleep through the drive. The campground at Vivonne Bay has everything you need, but it's not right by the sea and it's rather unremarkable. We decide to spend another night at the Rocky River Camp. We want to try our luck for a sunset at the Remarkable Rocks again. We take another walk on the beach and have a coffee/cake break at the playground. The carousel brings the kids a lot of fun, and mom and dad feel a bit dizzy.

On the way to Flinders Chase National Park, we stop at the Koala Walk in Hanson Bay. A nice footpath leads through the area where koalas and wallabies can be observed. We see several koalas in the trees. I'm usually not that good at spotting things, but these cute bears seem to be my thing and I spot several of them. After about an hour and a neck ache from constantly looking up, we make our way to the Remarkable Rocks.

The weather gods are on our side. The sun is still shining brightly and there isn't a cloud in the sky. When we arrive at the parking lot, we quickly cook and then enjoy a dreamlike sunset.

Michi takes care of our dishes in the camp kitchen at Rocky River Camp. He almost has a heart attack when he opens the trash bin. There's a possum sitting in the bin, enjoying the leftovers. No idea how it got in there, but Michi releases it again.
