Third day at sea, no network

已發表: 25.01.2017

After the bingo that went on a little longer the night before, which I found quite funny, the weather cleared up in the morning, and a few whales appeared, but I couldn't capture them quickly, my camera is not suitable for that, but it was enough for the whale watchers.

Being an internet junkie like me, being offline is actually a horror, but there was no other way here. No internet, no Wi-Fi, no mobile network, nada. Only during the short stopover in Puerto Eden (76 inhabitants) is there 30 minutes of mobile network, where I had to find out via SMS that Eintracht messed up again.

I have to say, the "radio silence" over a total of 80 hours was incredible, especially in terms of its effect....

You immediately adjust to it, immediately change your behavior. No more constant typing, you read, you just sit there and watch people, or you simply enjoy the peace and quiet.

Somehow it felt like going back to the 80s, when we did quite well without the Internet, email, etc.

And you get into incredible conversations. Instead of looking at your phone, people sometimes have very intense conversations and I eagerly participated. Since many people are traveling solo, mostly women, it wasn't a bad thing at all : -) On this day alone, I learned 4 stories, yes, life stories from Paris… New Caledonia (I didn't even know where that is), from Argentina, and from a girl from Chile whose mother is from Germany.

It's amazing what the lack of internet frees up in terms of communication skills, and somehow I feel sorry for the generation after us, who never really got to experience it.

In addition, we passed the narrowest point of the Santa Maria Channel (about 80 m, we had to wait 2 hours for the maximum flood, otherwise you can't get through), and what I saw there was by far the most fascinating thing I have ever seen in my life...
