Admittedly, I had been looking forward to visiting Charlies for a while. So I was surprised when the employee at our accommodation told me that this restaurant is overrated.
I wanted to see for myself and stopped by for lunch. It was the 11th BBQ restaurant we visited on our road trip so far.
The ambiance indicated a long tradition of the restaurant. Overall, it was nicely decorated and there were plenty of seating options.
Steffi chose ribs, I went for a combo of pulled pork, brisket, and ribs, with coleslaw and baked beans as side dishes.
The food was promptly served by the experienced staff. Steffi was not really happy with her choice. I was also very disappointed because the brisket was overly fatty, the pulled pork was cold, and the ribs had very little meat on them. Moreover, the meat was difficult to remove from the bone and had hardly any smoke ring. Taste-wise, it was rather underwhelming and the sauces didn't impress me either. The only thing I liked was the coleslaw, but that's not why I came here. Furthermore, the portion size was rather small for the price. I didn't really feel comfortable the whole time.
Conclusion: I was very disappointed with Charlie Vergos Rendezvous. Maybe it's just the name that attracts people there these days...
