Wednesday went as planned, a lazy day at the lake. Nina got her first sunburn. Because we forgot the sunscreen. Just like many other things were forgotten to pack on this trip.
Well, we have survived so far without hiking pants, camera tripod, and beach bag. And Nina's sunburn wasn't that bad either.
We went from the campsite to Lake Bohinj by bike. We looked for a small bay where we could find some peace undisturbed by the countless tourists.
In the afternoon, we wanted to finish the round around the lake, but again we partly walked it with the bike in hand. ;-)
So if you ever go to Lake Bohinj, walk around it and leave the bike behind.
The water was refreshing and so clear that you could almost see the bottom even further out.
The panorama around you, breathtaking. This mountain world, the blue sky, a few wispy clouds, and the many paragliders.
In addition to the circular path around the lake, the region has some great cycling and hiking trails to offer.
We would come back, that's for sure.
In the evening, everything was made ready to depart, a small dinner prepared, played games until it got dark, and then Thursday morning it was time to head towards Lake Bled.
A postcard motif as everyone wishes for. In the middle of the lake, a small island with a church on it, surrounded by a mountain world and blue water.
So far so good, but it is a tourist nightmare and the parking fees for PEPPER would have been outrageous, so we only treated ourselves to a short breakfast above the lake and then drove directly to the Slovenian capital.
We had already arranged a parking space in advance for €10/24h.
Nothing breathtaking, but affordable and close to the center.
A 25-minute walk along the river and boom, you are in the old town of Ljubljana.
We strolled through the narrow streets, ate ice cream on the banks of the Ljubljanica, wrote postcards, wandered through the cute little shops, and refreshed ourselves in one of the numerous small restaurants that the city has to offer.
Finally, we had a cocktail on the roofs of the city. From up there, you can see the mountains of Slovenia and in the evening, you can admire an incredible sunset.
Our conclusion about this city, it is beautiful and has a lot to offer culturally as well as culinary, historically as well as architecturally. So if you are passing through, definitely plan a stop.
The night from Thursday to Friday was not quite as relaxed and we were both awake shortly before 5 o'clock in the morning.
Since we are always ready to go anyway, we decided to have breakfast by the sea.
So Nina started the engine of PEPPER and rushed off.
She was visibly pleased that the roads wouldn't be so curvy from now on and she finally got to take over the wheel.
Along the Slovenian highway, we were able to enjoy the beautiful wide landscape again. Slowly, the sun rose over the mountains and we could watch the sunrise.
We had already carried the Slovenian sun in our hearts for the past few days and now it bid us a friendly farewell for the next 7 days.
8:20 am arrival at the campsite in Croatia. Asked friendly at the reception and boom, we had our pitch.
Not a minute's walk and we're standing with our feet in the sea.
Let's take a swim first to greet the place.
It's absolutely wonderful, we can tell you.
Here it stands, our PEPPER. It can relax for some time and so can we.
It's good that we had requested not to be placed near the pool area when booking. It's noisy there all day and evening.
A small supermarket, the washroom, and the rubbish disposal are just around the corner and we also have quiet neighbors.
Yesterday we were already able to witness a great sunset and we hope to do the same for the next 5 evenings.
We won't do much, just lie on the beach, ride a bike a bit, explore the town of Rovinj, eat and drink.
Just let our souls dangle, recharge for the time after the vacation, feel the saltwater on our skin, play grill chicken, and relax.
So, dear ones, we're going to fire up the grill now, because thankfully it's starting to cool down a bit.
We wish you a relaxing Saturday evening and we'll get in touch again in a few days.
Your Nina and Theresa
