The Imperial Palace in Tokyo

已發表: 26.03.2023

We wait for a long time at the gates of the Imperial Palace. With 70 other visitors, we are allowed to enter the outer area of the palace through the gate. We are led past the Imperial Court Office and the over 350-year-old Fujimi-yagura (a 16-meter-high watchtower) and are allowed to admire the palace from the outside. The buildings themselves are not allowed to be entered. Most of the buildings were destroyed either by the Kanto Earthquake or during World War II, but were rebuilt in a more modern style. In the true Japanese aesthetic sense, the palace surprises with its simple elegance. The roofs are made of copper and stand out with a turquoise green color that has been created through oxidation. The beauty lies in the simplicity. The blooming cherry trees are constantly seen and create a feeling of spring, despite the oncoming rain.
