Pool day! Lie-in, rich breakfast, smear sunscreen, pack beach bag, slip into flip flops and off to the pleasure. At a pleasant 27° and a gentle breeze, the day went as follows: splash into the pool, dry on the sunbed, dive into the sea (surf the waves), dry on the sunbed, and repeat in regular intervals :-) We noticed that the Americans like to take their take-away food everywhere for lunch (even in a 5-star hotel with bars and restaurants everywhere!) So, I went out of the hotel and went into a nearby pizza place, had a crunchy pizza baked, which we then enjoyed by the pool. After that, a little nap, followed by the pool/sunbed/sea routine. In the late afternoon, we went to explore the trendy Gaslamp Quarter. This area, full of bars and restaurants, really vibrates, and we really liked the architecture. After a delicious dinner, we rented an electric scooter (like in Venice) to go to Little Italy for coffee. It was not an easy task, as only one phone was charged enough to rent a scooter (guess whose....), so we could only rent one scooter. So, two of us on one scooter, which was not a problem weightwise, but our feet were a challenge on a rather short footboard. Zoë drove (!) and I held on tight to her with all the bags. We successfully arrived in Little Italy, Zoë almost threw up (maybe I held on too tight ;-)) and I got a really good espresso!! We took an Uber back to the hotel, where I wanted to watch the stars on the beach. A utopian endeavor.... lights everywhere and total hustle and bustle!! They had set up a huge screen on the beach and were showing The Lion King, there were bonfires everywhere, and people were enjoying the evening with lots of alcohol and music. It was an exciting observation, even if not the stars.
