Travis meets koala bears in Australia

Chop etilgan: 18.10.2023

G'day!

We arrived in Melbourne by plane yesterday morning. Luckily we didn't fall when we got out. I was a little tired after the night on the plane. My two older ones probably do too. That's why after we took over our car - you have to know, you can get cars almost anywhere in the world that don't actually belong to you: that's called rental car - so after we took over we looked for a shop where my big coffee (that black stuff that supposedly makes them more awake) and given something to eat. That was all good, but it wasn't comfortable there. So we stopped at a picnic table nearby. A picnic is when you bring something to eat outside. In the park or something.

The café has the right name, the big guy said
Dining visit

As we were sitting there, a funny bird came and wanted something too.

After dinner we drove on to Healesville. There is a so-called sanctuary. People help wild animals that have been injured. For example, if they are hit by a car. Unfortunately, this happens quite often. We have also seen dead kangaroos on the side of the road 😞

Always everything in view

I saw a lot of great animals there. Koala bears (my Australian relatives), kangaroos, wallabies and colorful parrots.

Naughty bird on my big one's head

I saw platypus (they have a very flat beak and prefer to swim through the water in the dark) and lots of other cool animals. I had never heard of most of them before. That was pretty exciting, I tell you.

The kangaroos were pretty lazy

Tasmanian devil - does not look devilish

Afterwards we moved into our little cottage in the town and later had something to eat in a restaurant where there was also a lot of local wine. My oldest found this interesting. I think he likes wine.

We are here in town for two nights. Tomorrow we continue our tour around Melbourne.

Today we spent the day in the Yarra Ranges National Park and drove the famous Black Spur Drive. A winding road in the forest. The two big ones said Simon would definitely like that. I haven't asked her who Simon is yet.

That was really fascinating. There are a lot of eucalyptus trees and fern forests, some of which are huge, where the ferns are as big as trees.

This fern is still rather small
Fern leaves unfurl
Sooo big trees!

And we also looked at two places where a lot of water falls. It makes sense to call this a waterfall. Logical, right?

Steavenson Falls: waterfall from below
Waterfall from above

I already know why I'm cautious when it comes to water. It falls almost 90m into the depths here. I didn't have to walk up. My oldest carried me 😇

Another small waterfall in the "rainforest" (Cora Lynn Falls)

Sometimes there were warning signs. I had the impression that my oldest got a little nervous.

Don't be afraid of snakes

But not me, because most of the time I had my safe place in my bag with my older one.

Stored safely

And then we also looked at a huge reservoir from above.

Lake Eildon

Now I'm pretty tired. I watched the sunset from the cottage and we'll go to sleep soon.

Sorry for chatting so much today. There's just so much happening.

See you soon and greetings from Travis the Buddy Bear
