Bali - Market Visit

Chop etilgan: 08.06.2019

Ubud itself does not resemble a traditional city as we know it. We could not find a house with more than two floors, but many have a garden with a private house temple. In principle, Ubud with its 34,000 inhabitants looks more like an oversized village. Every morning there is a market in the center, which we also visited once. However, to see the "real" market where the locals buy their food, you have to be there early, as vegetable stands are set up and souvenir shops are built during the morning. So we left the house at 5 am to start our big shopping. When we arrived at the market, one stall followed another and the colorful hustle and bustle was already in full swing. We squeezed through the narrow paths and the crowds to get an overview of the market. Here you could buy everything from fruit and vegetables, but also many flower stalls, stands with spices, nuts and dried fish/meat. On the large square next to the market building there were numerous trucks loaded with fruit or vegetables. We chose the best stalls and bought tomatoes, potatoes, parsley, melon, bananas and much more. We probably paid a "tourist price", which means a little more than a local, but it was still much cheaper than in the supermarket. For example, we had to pay only 1.50 € for 20 small bananas. We were able to gather a lot of great experiences and get to know the locals, as well as Ubud from a completely different perspective. Therefore, the market visit was a success for our wallet and for ourselves.
