This morning we desperately tried to find a hotel in Lyon. Apparently, due to the Beaujolais Nouveau celebrations, it's almost impossible, but not for us. No, we even found a houseboat with parking. After our City Pass experience in Bordeaux, a 24-hour ticket for public transport is enough for us here. Our city tour first took us to Vieux Lyon. Cobbled streets, souvenir shops, and Bouchons. We quickly found a suitable Bouchon for us. In Lyon, it is obligatory to have a Communard as an aperitif (Beaujolais with Cassisee).
We also followed the local recommendations for the menu: salade lyonnaise, terrine de poisson, Cesar de boeuf as the main course, and Quenelles with Humnersauce. We also ordered a pot of wine in the classic way. After the lunch break, we took the cable car to the mountain. Here, an impressive cathedral and an amazing view over Lyon awaited us. From here, we strolled through the Presqu'ile, a beautiful pedestrian zone, and passed many restaurants on our way back to the houseboat. Our cabin is super cool. Bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, everything is there and even a terrace on the deck just for us. The Lyon exploration continues: mission Beaujolais nouveau. We took the metro to the city center. And oh God, it's crowded. We even had to take a break in the subway station because the platforms were closed due to overcrowding. Luckily, there was even live music here. Only later in the evening, many bars and Bouchons set up market-like stands for Beaujolais and small snacks. So that was our aperitif. For dinner, we went to enfants terrible. Besides the standard Lyon aperitif 'Communard' (so delicious), we treated ourselves to snails with garlic and morels as an appetizer and ravioli with foie gras cheese sauce and filet mignon with morel cream and potato garlic gratin as the main course. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough room for dessert. Since it was raining like crazy by now, we took our own city tour with the metro and S-Bahn.
