One good thing about rain in Scotland. Most of it ends up as scotch.

'One good thing about rain in Scotland. Most of it ends up as scotch.'

After days of water, we set off on the second part of our journey, the GREAT GLEN WAY.

Fort William to Inverness.

After a relaxing day in Fort William, we set off on Tuesday (9.8.). The first stage was very relaxed along the Caledonian Canal. After 13 km we reached Moy Bridge. Idyllic place and decision, we will stay here tonight, although we were actually supposed to do a few more miles 🤫. However, our research showed that we didn't have enough water for the next stage. So we divided the tasks. Susi organized our house and I went on a 'hunt' to Speanbridge (nearest supermarket - 10 km round trip). I was back by 4:30 pm, but only because Trailangels gave me a lift for 3 km by car. I must have looked bad with my bags 😉. It was a cozy end to the day. Two tents joined us. Including a family who were kayaking on the lochs. Great, but not always nice because of the Scottish weather. We started the second day with a beautiful sunrise. We had to walk an additional half an hour as we simply decided to stay where we liked. Just do what is important to us. Great decision. Gairlochy Lock (see impressions) was the actual starting point and from there we went 20 km along Loch Lochy. The weather god apparently had enough water for Scotch and we had great weather. Unfortunately, there are few suitable rest areas on the Great Glen Way, so we had to walk a long way until we could have a meal directly on Loch Lochy. The backpacks were heavily loaded with food and water, and we were glad to finally reach our destination called Open Campground on a peninsula of the lake. A great place with fantastic views and actually a pub on a ship. A 🍺 and something to eat were the reward for a long day of hiking. Today is the third day. Destination: Fort Augustus. A dream day (be inspired). Sun, easy path, great views and in the end a B&B of the finest quality (Kettle House Fort Augustus - feel free to Google). As nice as everything sounds and is, we also have to admit that the backpack is sometimes heavier than it was a few years ago. But we are having fun and enjoying the time. It flies by. Tomorrow our destination is Alltsigh. Hopefully we will find a campground there!

Loch Ness, here we come!

Quote of the day:

Whisky doesn't solve problems! But neither does milk!

Cheers
