Amritsar: The holy city of Sikhs. A city that I had never heard of until recently.
For a short trip, I went to this city with a friend - and we had the full cultural experience: 8-9 hour bus ride with transfers in three typical Indian buses. I couldn't imagine how many people can fit in a bus. But the bus ride showed me: one more person can still fit in.
Amritsar surprised me personally. The city is located near the Pakistani border and is the most important pilgrimage site for followers of the Sikh religion. In Amritsar, I experienced the heat of India for the first time, ate the best Indian food, learned how to bargain with rickshaw drivers, and took a million selfies with Indians. At least it inspired me to take some photos of or with locals.
I was impressed by the many beautiful corners of Amritsar: The Golden Temple, the military ceremony at the Pakistan-India border, Jallianwhala Bagh Park in the middle of the city, and the fort of Amritsar.
