Several small stages are on the program today to get to know the Atherton Tablelands better. What is there to discover here? First, let's explore the landscape that fascinated us yesterday with its waterfalls. We drive to the Miilla Miilla lookout point, where you can admire the view over the region. Very beautiful!
We like the landscape and continue exploring. Next, we check out the local cuisine. As mentioned before, the image is dominated by meadows and hills. It is therefore not surprising that the region is known for its dairy products. We find a café connected to an organic farm that has already won several awards for its dishes (especially the cheesecake). We order a piece of lemon curd cheesecake and a piece of peanut caramel cheesecake and realize that it deserves its accolades, although 5 bites probably would have been enough for a whole day ;)
So, we can highly recommend the local products after the landscape as well. And then there's the wildlife. The Tablelands are not only known for their cheesecake but also for the platypus and tree kangaroos. We set out in search of them. On our way, we make a short detour to the "Curtain Fig Tree," which impresses us with its appearance.
In the quaint little town of Yungaburra, we spend several hours on the platypus viewing platform before continuing the search along a small river. We quietly creep along the shore and try to interpret every little contrast beneath the water's surface. If even the experienced angler's eye can't spot anything, that says something (well, maybe not if you look at my catch rate in recent years...;))
We search in vain not only for the platypus. The tree kangaroos are also elusive.
Conclusion: Beautiful landscape, delicious food, presumably fascinating animals.
