Three days ago (when I wrote this text...) it finally started. With a bit of skepticism about the whole thing, but at the same time a lot of anticipation, I was picked up by a tuk tuk at 8:30 am and taken to the Monster Divers diving school. On the way, we picked up someone else - coincidentally another German who would do the diving course with me. Everyone at the diving school was really nice and I had a good feeling right away. (If anyone ever wants to go diving in Pulau Weh, I can only recommend this diving school! I always felt safe, they take great care of you, and the people are just so nice!) After some theory, we went straight into the water to apply what we had learned. We practiced in shallow water all morning and afternoon, with theory lessons in between. So the first day passed by quickly. In the evening, I met someone from the diving school for dinner and then went to bed. Diving is quite exhausting. Yesterday it started again at 8:30 am, the same procedure as the day before, at least in the morning. In the afternoon, we went to the house reef, my first time with a camera. Unfortunately, the visibility wasn't great and I'm not an experienced underwater photographer, so the pictures didn't turn out the best. I'll probably edit them at some point to get more out of them, but not right now. But they're still really good for a first impression. There wasn't much going on in the evening as I was already pretty tired. Today was the first time going out on a boat. I was a bit apprehensive about falling backwards into the water, but it worked out great. The diving is also getting better slowly. So we spent a wonderful 45 minutes underwater at a reef. To be able to concentrate on myself better, I gave up the camera today and took better pictures right away. But the visibility was also better today. In the afternoon, we finished the theory, and after five dives and a successful exam, I now have my diving certificate! I can now dive up to 18 meters deep anywhere! Which is perfectly fine for now! Tonight, there will be a delicious juice (alcohol is not available here) with the others to celebrate the successful completion, and then I'll see how the next few days go. I also want to see a bit more of the island, but I will mainly be underwater! I'm very curious to see who I'll meet down there 😉
