05.10.2018:
The night was not a great rest. The very thin mattresses left blue bruises. Nevertheless, we slept until shortly before check-out. We preferred to find another hostel. From €2.14 to €2.50 per night, we now have more cleanliness and proper mattresses. After lunch, we decided to rent scooters for 48 hours. Costs: €8 per scooter plus gasoline.
We visited Wat Phra That Mae Yen, a huge white Buddha. Afterwards, we wanted to go to the national park. However, the entrance would have cost €8. We preferred to stay at a small hippie bar nearby and enjoy a cool cola. Then we went to Pai Canyon. Accessibility for people with disabilities definitely looks different. Climbing stairs and rocks again and again. I even slipped once, quite dangerous. But it was more than worth it. Especially the sunset was beautiful to watch. Then we quickly went to the Memorial Bridge. We tried various specialties at the night market. Always a pleasure.
Then we went to a bar. On the way, we met the girls again. David and Marwin had met a few people yesterday, who were now also with us. Somehow, I didn't feel comfortable in such a large group anymore. And it was a smoking bar. I hate smoke. I sat there with a annoyed expression. Everyone asked me what was wrong. I'm just not motivated, I don't feel like it today, just like yesterday. Did the hangover in Chiang Mai just get too much for me? I shaded myself, didn't want to have any more conversations, privacy, peace. Maybe being constantly in a group has become too much for me? I needed distance and went to the hostel. I have now acquired the reputation of being boring and a party pooper. Even though I'm usually the opposite.
Talking on the phone with my best friend. She reassured me that I should take it easy. But I didn't want to go out and party tonight, I wanted to be fit for the next scooter tour tomorrow. Hungover and confused, and then driving on the left side of the road in a country where road rules are more theory than practice? It still seems too risky to me, especially since there is no insurance for the scooter. My international driver's license is not valid in Thailand, but usually the police don't say anything. But without a valid driver's license, no one would pay. I only take responsibility. Sorry for being a killjoy. The six-person group also wants to come tomorrow. However, they are unreliable. But I should take it easy, according to my best friend. Let's wait and see what it will look like tomorrow.
