The flight was good, we went straight to Edinburgh City by taxi, where we checked into Fredericks House Hotel. We arranged a transfer for tomorrow to Kelty (Caravan Depot) for a whopping 55 pounds with Paul, our taxi driver (a true Scotsman...it's a challenge to understand his English). After that, we headed on foot towards Edinburgh Castle, which luckily is not too far away.
The city is quite busy, as it is the Fringe Festival and the so-called Military Tattoo (military displays from all countries). We prefer to watch the Fringe Festival, where artists and performers showcase their talents on the streets.
Unfortunately, we visit Edinburgh Castle only an hour before closing time, much to the disappointment of the cashier ('we recommend at least 2 hours')....well...what can we do....the kids can't last much longer. At exactly 6pm, we are politely but firmly kicked out...we saw the most important parts.
On Friday, we visit 'Dynamic Earth', an exhibition about the formation of the Earth, presented in a child-friendly way with lots of excitement and 3D effects. When we return to the hotel around 2pm, Paul is already waiting for us and is curious to hear about our experiences, then it's about a 50-minute drive over the Firth of Forth to Kelty.
When we arrive, the motorhome is already waiting for us...it's huge! Graham, the depot manager, gives us a brief introduction and off we go...the first hour of driving is quite stressful...but after that, it gets better. We drive to St. Andrews along the coast, where we quickly do some shopping and find a place to spend the night after some searching. However, the owner of the side street where we park knocks on our door half an hour later and tells us we can't park there. We were about to pack up when he invites us to park on the grounds in front of his house (a huge farmhouse with a horse paddock). Really nice!
Tomorrow we will continue towards the Highlands...
