Skye: Carbost and Coral Beach

Yesterday on Sunday was our lazy day. It was finally proper Scottish weather: misty, windy, heavily cloudy, and slightly rainy. It was a real relaxation for our stressed skin. However, we were so exhausted from last week and all our activities that we were not ungrateful for a day of rest.

First, we went to the Talisker Distillery, which is located in our village. However, we found out that children are only allowed to take a tour from the age of 8. So that was off the table for us. Well, never mind, we went to the Old Inn instead, the second oldest pub on Skye, several hundred years old. This pub has been our regular stop since 2011. Conclusion: the food is still just as amazing and the atmosphere is incredible!

Today, on Monday, the weather was sunny and very warm again. We decided to drive to Dunvegan by car and then walk to the Coral Beaches. This is a beach area that shines white and azure blue like the Caribbean. The beach is not made of sand, but of petrified seaweed, shell fragments, and snail shells. We had a beautiful afternoon. Before going to the Coral Beaches, we made a stop at the Giant Angus MacAskill Museum, which is dedicated to the life of the tallest, properly proportioned giant listed in the Guinness Book of Records. The man was 2.36 meters tall and had no deformities or abnormalities. He was a peaceful and friendly man who spent some time in America as a circus star. There, he also worked with the then smallest, properly proportioned man. Unfortunately, he died at the age of 38 from a fever.

On the way back to Carbost, we discovered a wonderful little shop operated by a young woman who creates true chocolate masterpieces. Of course, we stocked up there!
