Another move is behind me. Since I don't have enough travel days to visit all the cities, I had to choose between Liverpool and Manchester. However, since the two cities are close to each other, the train ticket doesn't cost much. So now I have chosen Liverpool and will probably, if I'm not too busy here, go to Manchester for a day, so I have planned an extra day.
I will reveal why I chose Liverpool later, after I have done something related.
After a two-hour train ride from Birmingham, I have checked in at the Liverpool International Inn Hostel, which is very centrally located. The temperatures here in Liverpool are currently about 6 °C lower than in Birmingham, which means it's around 24 °C, which feels a bit cool. However, it is also much more pleasant. But since I'm still a bit exhausted from the recent hot days and nights, as well as from the extreme snorers in the hostel in Birmingham, I didn't immediately set out on a big tour after my arrival.
The St George's Hall and Liverpool Empire Theatre are right next to Liverpool Central Station, where I arrived by train. On the way to the hostel, I discovered another war memorial, another church destroyed by bombing. This one was a bit different, so I came back after checking in at the hostel. Since the burned church is owned by the city, it has been made accessible as a public park. Currently, there are fundraising efforts to turn it into a freely accessible museum. As I happened to arrive here on a Friday, there was a small poetry event taking place from 4 to 6 o'clock in the afternoon, as is the case every Friday. Anyone could voluntarily recite self-written or poems by well-known authors. Since I didn't want to do anything too big, it was a good opportunity to sit down for two hours, listen, and do nothing else.
A new realization is the extent of the German bombings during World War II. I only knew before that London suffered great damage, the south, okay, I could imagine that, but now I'm quite far north, and I didn't know before that they bombed all the way up here!
