From Bantry, we went through Glengarriff to Kenmare. Never in my life did I think that this route would bless me with a breathtaking, diverse, and exciting journey.
It went up to the mountains along the coast, from green meadows to brown rock formations, there was everything here.
Arriving in Kenmare, I urgently needed to use the toilet. Here in Ireland, it's absolutely no problem to ask a restaurant if you can use the restroom. I was very hungry but also under time pressure, so I decided to get a chicken burger to go. In Kenmare, I was greeted by the sign: 'Welcome to the Ring of Kerry'. Yes, finally... I'm slowly getting there and feeling really comfortable in my VW Golf.
When I finally see the first beach, I feel nothing but pure joy! At Derrynane Beach, I jump around a bit, take photos, and take a deep breath. According to my phone, it's already 8:15 PM. So I continue driving to arrive at my accommodation by 8:30 PM. Upon arrival, I am greeted by an older lady. She is friendly but peculiar. She explains that she has a friend visiting for golf. She mumbles and I can only understand her with difficulty. After explaining to her that I'm too tired to drive again, she offers me to have dinner with her and her friend. It's clear that she's offering reluctantly. Nevertheless, I accept because I'm hungry. There's lasagna, baguette, and salad. She opens the second bottle of wine and I notice that both women are quite tipsy. After discussing politics, humanity, and traveling, I say goodbye politely and retreat to my room. I realize that the ladies want to talk undisturbed and a glass of red wine has already brought inner peace to me. Before I leave the room, I am asked what I would like for breakfast. Kathleen explains to me that she is a B&B. Breakfast for free? Awesome! I decide on a traditional Irish breakfast... whatever that means! :)
In my room, I enjoy the view of the wide fields and the sunset happening right outside my window. Wow... Once again, I am 100% captivated by this country!
Insight:
In Ireland, it is impossible to drive faster than 80 on a road where the speed limit is 100.
