Day 7 - La Guajira, Punta Gallinas

Chop etilgan: 26.11.2017

Today has brought us truly spectacular impressions. The alarm clock rang at 5 o'clock, pick-up is at 5:40.

Showering by flashlight because the generator wasn't running and we weren't sure when we would have the next opportunity to shower.

The pick-up was on time (!!!) and once again we went by Jeep through desert and wilderness, actually even more intense than yesterday but not as far. We are very close to the border with Venezuela 🇻🇪. In a small bay, we were transferred onto boats - of course, without any apparent system. We were promptly in the wrong boat, but it didn't matter because all 5 boats had the same destination.

2 hours boat ride always along the coast. Punta Gallinas can theoretically also be reached by car, but not always - and in the past few days, it has rained a lot. Fortunately, not today, the boats don't have roofs. The waves and the corresponding shocks were good for the body - to distract us, there was 2 hours of motor drone and plenty of sunshine ☀️ from above.

Arrival in a small natural harbor surrounded by mangroves and rocks. Then first a small breakfast in one of the 2 "hotels" on site. After that, we could choose a hammock for the night - so if you have problems with your spinal discs, you should really avoid this tour 😜

We heard that you can see flamingos here. I mean for real: Not 5 pieces in the Mainz city park, but hundreds in the wild.

So we asked our captain, arranged for a private tour, and headed back out onto the water. At the first stop, they tried to sell us 20 seagulls and some other birds as flamingos. It's wonderful when Julia gets upset in Spanish ... 😡

But at the next stop, there were actually some, I estimate a colony of about 500. We also got very close, a professional camera would have been good here.

Back on land, we went straight to the beach - cooling off - it's really hot here.

At 3 o'clock, we started a little tour by Jeep, what else.

Stop 1: View, beach, rock formations - very impressive. Everyone took photos and moved on.

Stop 2: For us, the absolute highlight! We were on a huge sand dune that drops steeply into the sea. A truly fantastic sight. And while our friends, the shaggy backpackers, looked stupid as always, we were already wearing our swimwear. We ran and jumped down the untouched dune like little children. And back up again, unfortunately, our fitness only allowed for more than 3 repetitions 😢 That was really awesome to watch and a great fun factor 👍

Stop 3: There we actually were at the northernmost point of South America. Actually only a cliff with a small lattice tower, but with geographical significance. We made it✊!!

Back at the 5-star hotel, we first took a shower. The water jet was so extreme that even I took 5 minutes to wash my hair 😂

Last item on the agenda: dinner and beer drinking - it is pitch dark here at 6 o'clock. You could pre-order for lunch today. The options were: chicken, fish, goat, or lobster. Unanimous decision of the Adami family - goat and lobster, both dishes on the table and everyone eats from everything - as always with us. We did everything right, super delicious!

But my friends, the shaggy heads: at lunchtime today, they actually complained that there was nothing vegetarian - we are here at the end of the world you idiots, not on Berlin's Kurfürstendamm! They then got pasta with vegetables - typical Colombian. I guess the chef went out of his way.

3 or 4 of these mini beers, exchanging experiences with other travelers, and off to the hammock. Tip from my neighbor: lay diagonally in the hammock, then you're almost lying horizontally. True, not as uncomfortable as I thought.

Good night!
