In Puerto Varas, we didn't have much time because we already had a flight booked to Punta Arenas for 13.10. So we informed ourselves about the landscape and surroundings during the four-hour drive from Pucón to Puerto Varas, so that we could see as much as possible within 1.5 days.
We walked directly from the bus to a car rental agency and rented a Volkswagen for two days. Meanwhile, Emily and Mama's cousin bought snacks and drinks at a supermarket. Then we drove to our Airbnb apartment, dropped off our things, had a bite to eat, and continued towards the national park. Puerto Varas is also located directly on a lake. The city was similar to Pucón, just slightly bigger.
On the first day, we drove about 70 km along the lake and made stops at a green lagoon, 30-meter-high waterfalls, and the base station of the Osorno volcano. There are 3 volcanoes around the lake, which offer a beautiful view from the city. The view from Osorno was once again gigantic.
The next day, we drove to Chiloé Island, the second largest island in South America after Tierra del Fuego.
This time there were only three of us, as Mama's cousin wanted to have a cozy day in Puerto Varas.
On the island, there is mainly fishing and agriculture. The first stop was the town of Ancud, where we had a cake in a really cute café on the way back. We drove around the island all day with our car and made stops wherever we liked the landscape in order to take photos. After a short but adventurous route, we arrived at a beach. There, the three of us took a small boat trip. We were able to observe small penguins, cormorants, flightless ducks, and sea lions. We returned to Puerto Varas around 6:00 p.m. After returning our rental car, we met Mama's cousin in Puerto Varas again.
