After two days in Banff we continued on to Lake Louise. Actually, we had hoped that the ice on the lake would have melted by now, but unfortunately we were a bit early in the year. So the lake greeted us with snow and ice. Now, ice is a bit tricky. There were dozens of people on the lake, and the ice seemed to hold them without any problems. However, when you see on one side of the lake that the ice has already melted and there is a sign next to it saying 'Thin Ice', a slight doubt about its stability can arise. And since I prefer to play it safe in such situations, I stayed on the shore. But Anna and Kerstin ventured onto the ice and made it back safely :)
At this time of year, only one campground is open in Lake Louise, so we didn't have to think about where to stay. Like all campsites in the national parks, this one was also a government campground, and I had the feeling that they weren't really keen on having guests in the winter. You checked yourself in at the entrance (apparently a common practice at government campgrounds) and the sites were more or less cleared. After some initial difficulties finding a cleared site, we parked between the meter-high snow walls. The picnic table was unusable, but we managed to make our way to the grill. This time we tried to make pizza on the grill, mmh, well, I have to admit that it didn't turn out too well :D. Luckily, we still had an oven in the motorhome. So we ate one after the other, but the pizzas tasted good!
