Maulbronn and Bretten Monastery

Опубліковано: 08.06.2023

wir=129:2- on the go

Today, because of the weather (rain showers and possible thunderstorms were forecasted) and the lack of appropriate clothing, the love of my life preferred not to go on a bike tour for several hours.

So we started the small family car and set off again to the land of 1,000 hills. Two destinations in search of the perfect backdrop for a completely different story; that was the true purpose of this little break.

The weather became increasingly friendly and sunny - which made the lack of sun protection painfully obvious. But against all odds, I always have a scarf with me. It may not replace sunscreen no. 50 - but it's better than nothing. Maulbronn and its monastery are worth a visit, even without a guided tour! Instead, we start with a little hike through the vineyards, which were actually laid out and cultivated by the lords of the monastery. Here, too, hiking boots are not the most important prerequisite for a successful tour.

When we reached the parking lot at the bottom, there are endless photo opportunities with the lake and monastery. If I ever wanted to make a photo book about the monastery and all the houses around it, I would spend days sorting through and still need 500 pages for the beautiful corners of this complex. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any indication of where exactly in the monastery some scenes from the movie THE NAME OF THE ROSE were filmed or some shots for the movie HILDEGARD VON BINGEN. Perhaps the explanation is available during a guided tour.

Of course, the lake is a bathing lake with gastronomy - just like the whole complex, no one has to leave hungry or thirsty.

Back on the road to Bretten, we also pass Knittlingen (Faust town), which is certainly not known to every student in BW. The Melanchthon city of Bretten is also known for its medieval spectacle. The city has many beautiful half-timbered houses and therefore has something interesting to offer not only during the Peter and Paul festival. Today, the market square was home to unbelievably many umbrellas and the corresponding chairs - there is a wide variety of cafes, ice cream parlors, and simple to upscale gastronomy. With the beautiful weather, it is very pleasant to enjoy a delicacy under an umbrella. On the way home, I wonder why we don't live here considering the beautiful landscape, which is also called the 'Badische Tuscany'. Probably many families with motorhomes and/or dogs are also wondering that right now.

As long as they enjoy their time out in the land of 1,000 hills - just like us.

See you soon.
