After our standard breakfast of cornflakes, we drove to the small village of Chemuyil where our guide Brian was already waiting for us. We met the other two members of the tour and packed our stuff into the baskets of the bikes.
First, we had to test ride the bikes for Brian as they only had rear pedal brakes. Once we were confident, we pedaled off. The roads were not paved and quickly turned into rocky forest paths, which made it a bit tricky. When we reached the first cenote, we had to fight our way through the jungle and protect ourselves from the many mosquitoes, but it was worth it. It was very special to swim in such a half cave and dive into the different chambers.
The second cenote was a cave that we had to descend into. The water was cold and the ceilings were filled with bats.
The ride continued to get hotter and felt like it was stretching on. But all the sweat was worth it when we arrived at the third cenote. It was like a natural pool, with clear water, in the midst of a green oasis.
Our tour was over and we had lunch at a small local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we went to Akumal Bay, where we were provided with snorkeling equipment. We went snorkeling in the sea and saw a lot of sea turtles!
In the evening, we drove to Tulum to our new Airbnb and were so tired that we ordered dinner to our apartment.
