Zapotec Heritage

My new travel guide in German language, dog-eared but still current (2020), would save me a lot of time in the future. Instead of long discussions about the country and its people, I can simply upload the well-researched articles by Helmut Hermann and Dorit Heike Gruhn from 'mexiko kompakt' here.

On Saturday, we visited the important archaeological site 'Monte Albán' (see description!). Maybe in the future, I can also do without taking photos.

...

We planned the excursion program as a group from the hostel. Andy from DC, Kenny from Berlin, Jonas from Munich, and Eimear from Ireland, the five of us easily shared a taxi, two in the front seat, three in the back. We got along great in other aspects as well. As solo travelers, we could exchange information about various topics: travel tips, food poisoning, hostel anecdotes, and of course, COVID-19. In this context, I also found out how to top up my Mexican SIM card.

Thanks to Andy's sociable nature, there was always a colorful mix of pleasant hostel guests, Anna from Belgium, Tessa from Holland, Jonathan from New York, etc. Despite the different nationalities and ages, there were hardly any controversies. However, we occasionally joked about the ignorance of the Americans on one hand and the arrogance and moral superiority of the Europeans on the other hand.

In the evening, we said goodbye to our temporary roommates before the night bus from Oaxaca to Puerto Escondio left at 10:30 PM.
