Today our journey continues towards Krakenes, we have booked a nice cottage near the lighthouse. Along fjords and mountains, we travel from Solavagen to Festoya, about 4.3 kilometers, and from Ärvik to Koparnesca, 2.8 kilometers, with two car ferries in changing weather. On the way, we see a Hurtigruten ship in a shipyard. Just as we drive up to Krakenes, the most beautiful summer weather appears, so we enjoy the great view. (By the way, this is also typical for Norway, the weather can change every half hour.) After arriving at our beautiful accommodation in Krakenes, we walk to the lighthouse and enjoy the great view over the sea. This time the other way around, so far we have always observed this lighthouse from the Hurtigruten ship. The first lighthouse was built in 1906 on the northwestern cape of the island. It was destroyed by fire in 1945 after an Allied air raid and rebuilt in 1950. The station is 42.5 meters above sea level and consists of a main wooden house, the former keeper's house, with the 10-meter high lighthouse attached to the seaside, a weather station, and a storm house located somewhat apart and protected. The lighthouse was automated in 1986. It emits white, red, and green lights, depending on the direction, blinks every 6 seconds, and is visible from a distance of 12.8 nautical miles (23,706 km). This great day ends with a fine dinner and a game of "Jass".
