Successful start

Опубліковано: 27.07.2019

So I'm reporting from Bali for the first time. The flight was long but actually quite pleasant. Since the rush to Bali was bigger than expected, I had to wait in line for about 3 hours to show my visa after arriving at midnight.

The landlord of my hotel room wasn't exactly thrilled when I woke him up at 3:30am with a friendly 'Hello, is anyone here?' :D

After a short night, I went out today to get a scooter. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to rent a scooter without a credit card as collateral, but he asked for some kind of security and graciously accepted my 2-year-old ÖAMTC Club card as 'collateral'.

Driving on the left side of the road for the first time with a scooter was quite challenging. The traffic system in Bali can actually be described quite well with one word: CHAOS. Overtaking on the left, overtaking on the right; speed limits or right of way rules? They don't exist. From a snack stand on a scooter to 10-year-old children driving alone to 4 people without helmets on one scooter, I've seen it all today. But the weird thing is - it works. As long as you pay attention to your surroundings, you can quickly get used to it and it's really fun. :)

The first sightseeing stop today was the GWK Statue. But since the whole park is still under construction, it's not as exciting as I thought. There's not much to see, but if you're already there, you might as well take a look.

Then, on the recommendation of my landlady, I went to the Uluwatu Temple. I didn't have enough time for the temple itself, but there were lots of monkeys and a traditional Balinese fire dance to see.

See ya!
