June 10th (Whit Monday) / 72nd Day: Rest Day

Опубліковано: 12.06.2019

Yes, it was supposed to be a forced rest day. My second pair of shoes was worn out after almost 1000 km, and since Whit Monday is a holiday in France, I had to wait until Tuesday morning for the sports shoe store to open. There are no more shops on the way to the Spanish border.

In the morning, I set off for the canal that leads across the Garonne. I'm not alone.

On the way back, I hear someone calling: my friend. Jerome and Regina cross my path again and we spend the morning together, going to the sailors' service in the cathedral at 11 o'clock.

We explore the cathedral before saying goodbye, they go back home after lunch.

Moissac Cathedral

I found out that the sports store opens at 2:30 PM, maybe I can still make progress?

So I visited the world-famous unique Romanesque cloister:

I meet Paul from Stuttgart, who is on his way to Santiago by bike with extraordinary trust in God: hardly any French, no phone, few maps. According to my motto: whoever leaves everything to God is also on the way.

I found shoes, not high ones this time, the old ones go home for repair.

The decision is made briefly, 19 km to Espalais, where I arrive at 6:30 PM.

It's a brilliant evening, Canadians, Australians, a few Frenchmen, a Czech and me. The hosts are so fantastic, the evening flies by.
