Day 129 Way to Kalbarri & Kalbarri National Park

Опубліковано: 20.10.2022

Now it is time to leave Shark Bay for the Batavia Coast, more precisely Kalbarri. On the road, we stopped at the Billabong Roadhouse for fuel and breakfast. Stuart couldn´t decide whether the Passionfruit cheesecake or the Mango-Macadamia cheesecake will be better, so he just ordered both. Stuart agrees that this roadhouse (with free camping at the back) is highly recommendable.

After leaving the highway towards Kalbarri, we took the first turn-off to the smaller part of the Kalbarri National Park with two lookouts to visit. We drove at first to the Hawks Head Lookout from which you have a beautiful view on the Murchison River. From the second lookout, Ross Graham Lookout the views were not so nice, but on the drive to the lookout we discovered many new wildflowers we haven´t seen before, so lots of stops & photos along the road:

As it was too early for check-in at our next accommodation we were heading to the other part of the Kalbarri National Park to the Z-Bend. Stuart discovered at the car park a wallaby, so he didn´t want to join us for walking. We decided to do the Z-Bend Lookout walk for good views and then from the lookout onwards the more difficult River Trail walk. The Z-Bend walk is pretty easy and takes you to a lookout with great views on the river in the gorge. The River Trail starts easy, but then it descends steep into the gorge with pretty narrow and winding way down to the river. The most annoying thing about this National Park were all the flies - there are millions of flies following and annoying you on every step and lookout with increasing numbers near the rivers edge. So Stuart was happy when we finally arrived in the town of Kalbarri without flies...
