Edmonton + Metallica

Опубліковано: 25.08.2024

Hello, here we are again. In the meantime, we have left the far north and are now in the big city of Edmonton.

In total, we spent 2 months in the Yukon and Northwest Territories, experiencing absolute solitude at times. We traveled approximately 7000 km here, of which 2600 km were on pothole-filled, muddy, or gravel roads. The constant bumps have taken quite a toll on our camper. We encountered some minor issues, which can also be attributed to these conditions. For example, the ceiling fixing of a roof hatch came loose, the plastic joints of two blackout blinds broke, the retractable step stopped working, an electronic display failed, and there were several other problems. We managed to temporarily repair some things ourselves, but a trip to the workshop is definitely due in the fall. The tires that were freshly installed at the front before the trip are already nearly worn out and will just make it to our destination, Halifax.
In all of Canada, there are always very lonely sections, but the 'real' north is in every way very special and adventurous, but also beautiful.

When we left the area around Yellowknife, it was smoky for 2 days due to fires nearby and far away (Alaska), making it hard to see anything and breathing was difficult.

Now we have arrived in Edmonton. We plan to stay for a few days. Two days ago, we accidentally found out that METALLICA is performing here at the big stadium on August 23 and 25. We immediately drove there and parked right next to a large Metallica truck. We saw online that there were still a few hundred tickets available. The question was whether to wait for the box office or order online. We decided on the latter. But it was very complicated, as we had to create an account with Ticketmaster Canada and send the tickets to the only phone we had (the second phone had floated away in the rushing waters of the Klondike River...). Eventually, the tickets were paid for, but not on the phone. We had to chat with Ticketmaster support for a long time before the tickets were finally available electronically.

It’s quite strange, just recently we were absolutely alone, and now we found ourselves with about 60,000 people in the Commonwealth Stadium. Since there are no campsites nearby, we spent the night in a Walmart parking lot. Our two neighbors were also at the concert. The show was good and at a place that is special for us.

It’s becoming difficult to process all the experiences and encounters. Let’s see what the last two months will still bring...
