In the morning, I stopped by the Wanaka Tree again for the sunrise. Then I headed towards the West Coast. The weather was just amazing, like yesterday. Clear sky in a place where it rains over 200 days a year.
On the way, I made stops at the Blue Pools and a few other places for some photos, and around noon, I arrived at the parking lot for the Fox Glacier Viewpoint.
Here you can see the power of the water and the damage it can cause. There is a well-built path leading to the viewpoint, which offers a distant view of the glacier.
Unfortunately, due to climate change, the glaciers in New Zealand are retreating more and more.
Next, I went to Lake Matheson, which I walked around and enjoyed a beautiful view of Mount Cook and Mount Tasman.
The journey to Franz Josef Glacier was quick, and at the parking lot, it was mentioned that due to the floods, the viewpoint is now 2000m away from the glacier.
Well, never mind, I still walked there and saw the glacier.
Then it was time to check into a hostel in Franz Josef. Getting a room at a somewhat reasonable price in Franz Josef is not easy.
In the immediate vicinity, I had a delicious meal on the outdoor terrace of a restaurant.
