Today we are going back to the coast, passing through huge areas of dead forest again. The people we meet all say the same thing: This didn't exist 10 years ago. The area is influenced by Christian values, which is easily seen on the signs on the roadside. Everywhere there are quotes like "Jesus saves you, ask him" or similar messages.
Lunch is in Bandon, a small pretty town on the coast where we treat ourselves to fish sandwiches.
The beaches are lined with numerous rocks and islands, very wild and picturesque at the same time. The area is probably not conducive to buying land.
We follow the Pacific Highway until just before California. Here we find a wonderful beach area to stay overnight. Probably the only one where camping is not explicitly prohibited. We visit two viewpoints before driving slightly north again for dinner and sunset photography. The motorhome next to us belongs to Nick Yarris, an older gentleman who spent 21 years innocently in death row and awaited the death penalty! What you learn in the first few minutes of small talk in the USA!
He is an author and there is a Netflix film about his life and fate. Unfortunately, the promotional tour of his story came to an abrupt end with Corona. We are given his book as a gift and will definitely read it. His two dogs are very friendly and interested in the temporary neighbors. Since Yarris is broke, he lives here on the highway and waits for better times...
