Moeraki Boulders and Oamaru (New Zealand Part 37)

ئېلان قىلىندى: 31.01.2019

We drove along the coast from Dunedin to Oamaru and stopped two kilometers north of Moeraki.

There, after a short walk on the beach, you can reach the geological formation of the Moeraki Boulders, large stone marbles that can be seen on the beach or in the water.

The balls that were not too far in the water were popular for climbing for photos. All you had to do was dodge the waves a bit to avoid getting wet feet.

A stay in Oamaru had been recommended to us by a volunteer from the Department of Conservation during penguin watching - probably also because he came from there.

In fact, the city offered a nice ensemble of representative houses from the 19th century.

Some streets still exuded the flair of Victorian times. The bakery where we bought our lunch - an English pie - also seemed like a relic of the past.

We were immediately recommended a German bakery in Luke's Anglican Church. The guide had rightly recognized that what we buy here as bread is at best toast for us.

Unfortunately, we didn't have time to visit there after calling the helicopter flight provider because we still wanted to do our scenic flight at Mount Cook in the beautiful weather.
