Modena and Maranello - in Ferrari Land (Italy Part 7)

Enzo Ferrari, the father of the eponymous automobile brand, was born in Modena in northern Italy.



Today, there is a museum dedicated to his work in his birthplace and on the grounds - featuring a very dramatic film about Enzo's life and, of course, several cars.



Afterwards, we went to the city center of Modena, which is not far from the museum.



There, we walked under numerous arcades to the Piazza Romana with the Ducal Palace, which now houses the Military Academy.



On the Piazza Grande, we saw the Cathedral, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage.



While looking at its facade, we ate the most delicious ice cream of our trip so far. Once again, we limited ourselves to admiring it from the outside because it is closed for lunch on Mondays.



On our way, we saw a statue of Luciano Pavarotti. We learned that he was born in Modena in 1935 and also passed away here in 2007.



The next morning, we visited the second Ferrari Museum in the area, located in Maranello. This is where the brand's car factory is also located.



There was also a lot of self-presentation and pathos here, but a much larger exhibition focused on the Ferrari brand and the Scuderia Ferrari racing team - and especially their successes. Originally, Scuderia Ferrari was a racing team under Enzo Ferrari, until he later started manufacturing cars according to his own vision.



In a special exhibition celebrating the 90th anniversary of Scuderia Ferrari, we could compare how races looked in the past and today, much to the delight of the fans. Race cars driven by all the world champion drivers were also displayed.



Another interesting section was about the "One Off" models. These are unique models specifically designed according to customer preferences, with the customers visiting Maranello multiple times to witness the creation of their car. A design model of one of the latest cars from this series was on display. This particular model was not suitable for road use, but designed as a racing car as per the customer's request. That's why it didn't have headlights, making it lighter.



You could only purchase one of these models if you had already bought five Ferraris - but the edition was limited to 200 models.
