From Timmendorfer Strand to Wismar

Today I have to start with the weather again. This was probably the hottest day of the entire tour, if the current forecasts are to be believed. For the first time, we started in shorts and a T-shirt, only a vest was still necessary at the beginning. That was no longer the case by midday. At our destination in Wismar, we ultimately reached 31°C. But first things first. The route from Timmendorfer Strand led to Travemünde, unfortunately not along the beautiful cliff coast, which was closed. This should happen to us several times today. Probably the Baltic coast took quite a beating during the last storm surge. In Travemünde, we took the Priwall ferry over to the east and then continued to Boltenhagen. There was a lot of beach hustle and bustle again. Unfortunately, almost all the Baltic Sea beaches charge fees, so a short visit for sightseeing or photography was not possible. Shortly before Wismar, we actually found a small beach area where people were swimming and there were no corresponding signs to be seen. I couldn't resist the temptation to test the water. It was extremely shallow at this point and certainly much warmer than the officially stated 20 degrees. The many little jellyfish were obviously not a problem either. After that, we hurried to get to our hotel as the approaching thunderstorms were already clearly audible. It was not easy because I only half remembered the name and the hotel had the other half on the exterior. Just before the rain started, we were able to unload our luggage and store the bicycles. There was a little surprise when we entered the room that was provided for us. It was extremely small with a French bed, it is actually a single room. I hadn't paid attention when booking. But it was quickly sorted out. A quick note about the route. It was quite hilly with many short but sharp inclines. A total of 335 meters of elevation gain. I had not expected that. Plus, most of the time the wind was in our face, which was also very warm in the afternoon. We were relieved when we arrived.
