Day 17

Our last day in New York is here - before we fly back to Switzerland tomorrow!

We decide to take a boat tour around Manhattan. This gives us a whole different view of the city, as you will see. Last pictures of the city on the way to Pier 83 on the Hudson, where our Circle Line boat will depart.

We first head towards the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island - on the way, other boats cross our path.

Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty are among the most famous landmarks in New York. After more than 12 million immigrants arrived here by ship, it plays a major role in the history of America. Ellis Island is considered, poetically, as the Gate to the American Dream. Here you will find the National Museum of Immigration.

Not to mention the view of the skyline of the Financial District of Manhattan with the One World Trade Center.

We now continue on the East River towards the Brooklyn Bridge, the most famous of all bridges from 1883, a design made of stone & steel, connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan.

The next bridge we pass is the Manhattan Bridge.

All the bridges are iron structures. The Brooklyn Bridge can be crossed by car, subway, or on foot and by bicycle, connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Then there are more bridges, some of which the ship can barely pass under, as they are very low.

As we sail further towards the Bronx, the last neighborhood before the ship returns to the Hudson River to finally end the journey at Pier 83, the cityscape also changes - with fewer tall skyscrapers, if any are even visible, and more greenery.

However, the contrasts between old and new buildings are always noticeable.

Finally, we pass the George Washington Bridge, which connects Manhattan to New Jersey, and sail back on the Hudson River to Pier 83, where we end our boat trip and sightseeing on the water.

In the evening, we take some final photos of the city and meet our friend for dinner.
