5th stage part 2 to Nájera

ئېلان قىلىندى: 03.11.2023

After the break we continue and it was windier than ever again. I met a woman from Mallorca in the city who started the Camino Frances in February but took a break for the day because of snow. And now started in Logroño. She speaks German, as this is the unofficial language in Mallorca. She was very nice, but she only goes 5km and then she's at her destination for the day. And she had to take a break. I decided to always go at my own pace, but also to adapt from time to time, but considering that I still had a few km to go and rain was approaching, I decided to keep going. We walked for a long stretch next to a motorway and the wind picked up, making walking very difficult. And then, out of nowhere, the rain came again. I learned two things along the way: wind is always there and always expect rain. I didn't have my rain gear around my backpack because I figured it wouldn't rain that hard or at all. And then getting the rain protection around your backpack outside under a bridge while your own rain cape is flying around your ears wasn't so easy. And I probably packed my backpack too high so the rain cover didn't fit. And I had to repack half my backpack. From this I learned that I now always put a temporary rain cover around it. He goes off quickly, but when he starts and is just outside in a wooded area without the possibility of shelter, then you look stupid. I'm so glad that I took the rain cover with me at all because I naively thought that my rain cape would be enough, as the wind blows around your ears and you get wet underneath. And I also have gloves with me, but of course at the bottom of my backpack. For me it always takes a few days to organize my things in my backpack. Today I attached the scallop shell (identifying symbol of every pilgrim) to my backpack and hoped the whole time that I had attached it well and that it wouldn't come off in the wind. So I made my way through the rain and wind weather. And after what felt like five minutes I was wet again. But luckily I didn't have that much distance to go. When I finally arrived in Nájera, I went shopping so that I wouldn't have to go out again later in case of an emergency. So I dragged all my shopping about a kilometer through the city to the hostel. I have to say that this is another beautiful city that I would have liked to explore, but I don't have the energy to leave the guesthouse today.

On the way I called the guesthouse and asked if there was still a room available. And yes, in the end I was in a 6-bed room with one other person. He comes from England and takes the route in a very relaxed manner. The operator seems busy but friendly and carries your luggage up to your room. The facilities are also great: kitchen, 2 bathrooms with toilets and I could choose the bed. Sockets and blankets were also available. After showering, I relaxed a bit in bed and then made myself dinner (soft baguette with cheese gratin, tomato sauce and caramel pudding. Super delicious. Then I rested, thought a little about the day and planned my next stage and left then go to sleep straight away.
