Day 19 Queenstown

ئېلان قىلىندى: 16.11.2017

Early in the morning, I set off for the planned mountain tour. After the first two hours, there is no progress. There is a small river that needs to be crossed, and the recent rainfall and snow have made the current too strong. Somehow, it doesn't even bother me, that's just how it is. Maybe there's something good about it too.

So I drive into Queenstown around noon and make stops at two campsites along the way to see where I might spend the next night. Leaving Glenorchy was quite difficult, as this gem is probably quite unique! However, on the road, I encountered so many Asians in rental cars and some buses coming towards me, that it was probably a good decision to keep Glenorchy in peaceful memory.

In Queenstown, the total opposite. I spend just under an hour in the city center. Everything is very clear and due to the compactness, very hectic. A total contrast to Glenorchy.

My instinct tells me today that I want to see more of this magnificent country. And after all, this is a road trip. So I listen to my gut feeling.

Back on the road! Heading to Te Anau. The gateway to Milford Sound. The scenery along the way is breathtaking and once again, completely different. It goes on long straight stretches of land, interrupted only by steep slopes to cross rivers.

Arrive in Te Anau around 5:30 p.m. and can still sit outside, enjoy the evening sun and read. The birds are singing between the trees, they are blooming, it's slowly becoming summer. However, rain is forecast for tomorrow in Milford Sound and the planned mountain tour will probably be canceled as well, due to 8 degrees below zero at nearly 1900 meters. That suits me just fine. Tomorrow, I'll just take another day off 🙂.
