The next day we spent most of the time in the truck. We drove for about 8 hours to the Island View Lodge in Namibia to spend the night there. Along the way, we drove through Caprivi National Park and were able to see some animals. This 'detour' through Namibia was necessary as our journey led us to Chobe National Park. It is located in the northeastern part of Botswana and to get there, you have to go around the Okavango Delta through Namibia.
The next morning, we had to pack up the tents, have breakfast at 06:15 am, and at 07:00 am we set off again towards Botswana. After 4 hours of driving, we arrived at Thebe River Lodge and after lunch, we went on a game drive in the park. Chobe National Park is characterized by the Thebe River, which is the border river between Botswana and Namibia. In the national park, it is surrounded by tall grass and dotted with islands, creating an ideal environment for hippos, elephants, buffalos, and many other animals. However, a bit further away from the river, you are already deep in the bush and the landscape is densely vegetated. We were very lucky there as a leopard crossed our path, allowing us to complete the Big 5. Our game drive ended at the riverbank where we boarded a boat. With this boat, we traveled down the river to an island and back up to the jetty during sunset. The incredible view along the river allowed us to observe over 100 elephants on the banks, as well as many other species. Back at the lodge, we enjoyed our dinner before spending our last night in the tent.
