Foynes Flying Boat Museum

On the way to Limerick, we pass through Foynes. Nothing special in itself, if Foynes had not been the base for regular flying boat flights to New York in the 1930s and 1940s.
Foynes would be insignificant today if it were not for a museum with the world's only replica of a Boeing B 314 flying boat.
At least the important things. Interior and cockpit.
And !! If it weren't for Hollywood star Maureen O'Hara, who was connected to Foynes throughout her life and spent her birthday there every year until her death in 2015. She also donated a lot of personal items to the museum, which now has a permanent exhibition dedicated to her.

Foynes is also famous (because of the flying boats), more precisely because of the canceled flight of one of the flying boats. The waiting passengers were freezing cold and then went to a pub and demanded something strong and warm.
That was the birth of the IRISH COFFEE here in Foynes.
They show the story in a separate cabin as an animated hologram show.

In addition, there is a small maritime exhibition that represents a bit of craftsmanship and fishing in the area. It shows how the boats, called Currachs, were built in the past. A wooden frame covered with canvas, which was coated with tar to make it watertight.
