We continued our short trip (1.5 hours) to Irkutsk, the next larger city here. Irkutsk has a lot of history to offer, as many, many years ago unwanted people from Russia or Poland were banished here. This has led to a unique culture.
Today, the socialist charm still prevails with some quite dilapidated buildings. Meanwhile, there are attempts to restore the beautiful old wooden houses. But there is still a long way to go.
As it is pouring rain and quite chilly, we don't feel like exploring further.
We are staying at the Marriott, where you can spend an afternoon with very good food and a well-stocked bar.
