Since my wonderful friends started this blog, I will now fill it with life.
It's not about writing everything down every day, but rather about capturing special moments / experiences & highlights.
And of course, the journey was very special to me - so here it is in a bit more detail:
After no more than three hours of sleep, the alarm clock went off shortly before 3 a.m. and it was almost straight to BER Airport. After receiving a negative PCR test result on Friday, a quick test was still required, as you can't currently enter the Netherlands without it and my flight was with KLM via Amsterdam. After this somewhat unpleasant experience, it was time for check-in, where my suitcase had to be lightened by 3 kg - luckily, my hand luggage was not checked, otherwise it would have been a challenge... keyword: excess baggage :D
Then straight to security control, where three different pieces of luggage were tested separately for explosives, which also caused some delays. Since the boarding had already started, I went straight to the plane so unfortunately I couldn't experience the new airport at all.
The flight from Berlin to Amsterdam was almost fully booked but uneventful, so I waited for 2 hours at Schiphol Airport until sunrise. Even this time passed quickly and then I had 11 hours of long-haul flight ahead of me.
I personally love flying and after several trips in 2019, 2020 was quite a change. So it was even more enjoyable to finally sit in the plane again and thanks to the current situation, I had a row of seats all to myself - absolute luxury on such a long flight! 3 movies and a book made it even better, so I arrived in Cape Town at half past 10 p.m. local time in the evening and everything went smoothly here too.
My pre-booked transfer took me safely to my accommodation for the first two nights and what do you talk about when you come from Germany - football, and of course I could join in ;) We also talked about the current situation in South Africa and I was especially pleased that the day before, Cape Town Hospital announced that there are no more COVID patients.
Fortunately, the check-in worked perfectly in the end, and after almost 21 hours of travel, I quickly ended the day - good night!
