28.04. Tablelands 🇳🇿

Басылган: 30.04.2018

Today we were in the Tablelands, a highland with beautiful waterfalls, of which we visited three. Afterwards, we went for a swim in a huge freshwater lake. Well, okay, Paddy went swimming, Lisa thought it was too cold.

On the way back, we made a stop at the Curtain Figtree. What's that? A strangler fig.

It was once a tree that was infested by a strangler fig. From the top of the tree, it developed aerial roots. Once these roots were fully developed and connected to the ground, they effectively strangled the tree. This process took several hundred years until the tree was completely decayed. Today, all that remains is the strangler fig, which looks like a curtain and has created a natural artwork. This happened because the tree tipped over to the side back then.
