13-12-19: Valparaiso - Santiago

Yesterday a severe forest fire broke out near Valparaiso. Unfortunately, it happened directly on the road connecting to Santiago. We were afraid that the road might be closed due to the fire and we would have difficulties returning to Santiago. In fact, 250 hectares of forest were burned. However, people in Valparaiso are used to such fires, so the fire near the road was brought under control. On the way back, we saw the charred areas and a few small fires. Nevertheless, we arrived in Santiago on time.

Tomorrow we will continue to Punta Arenas and to the ship. Let's see how the Wi-Fi on board works. Maybe our Chilean prepaid SIM card will still work for the first few days.
