Once again this year, I went on a multi-day bike tour with my friends Nico, Krissi, Max, and Anna. This time we chose Slovenia as our destination. The starting point of our tour was supposed to be Maribor, so we had to get there first.
Because we decided on this tour quite late due to Corona, there was no space left for us and our bikes on the train, so we traveled by a 7-seater bus. At 9:00 we picked up all the passengers and drove through eastern Bavaria, Austria, and a small part of Slovenia until we arrived in Maribor around 16:00. We checked in and strolled through the city.
We strolled through a park where several bands were set up or played. After that, we went up a vineyard: steep uphill, there was a lookout platform, a small chapel, and an interesting ruin at the top. Back down again, we treated ourselves to an ice cream, which we enjoyed next to a swan on the Drava river. As we continued to stroll, we saw many beautiful shops, an old VW bus that had been converted into a band bus with a drum set on the roof, and a large main square. We kept coming back to it. There was a fountain and street musicians created a lively atmosphere. We danced in the middle of the square, walked through the fountain, and had a lot of fun.
Later, we ate delicious giant pizzas in a busy pizzeria, which were served with scissors for cutting. We also tried a chocolate kebab with strawberries and, of course, the local beer. On the way back, it was already pitch dark and we passed by an open-air concert again. We enjoyed the music and danced a bit before going to bed. We wanted to be fit for the next few days, which promised to be challenging.
