New day and new opportunities. We continue exploring around Krabi, aiming for a break on the beach. Said and done, we found a great quiet beach a bit further behind Ao Nang. So if you ever find yourself in Ao Nang, don't give up on the tourist masses, just follow the road 😉. Thus, the day was enjoyed at the beach and the water, it was as warm as a bathtub. In the evening, we returned the scooter, enjoyed a really good Italian dinner (today we felt like having something less spicy) and ended the evening with a coconut shake.
The next morning, Thursday, October 30, 2019, we continued to Koh Samui, a 4-hour drive, 2.5 hours by minivan and then 1.5 hours by speed ferry. On Koh Samui, we immediately noticed the tourist rip-off, a taxi for 25km was supposed to cost 1400 baht, no way, we didn't want to pay that. So we decided to walk a bit and look for a hop-on-hop-off vehicle and voilah, only 300 baht, which was still theoretically too much.
40 minutes later, we found a room with a sea view and lots of space. Due to the time we spent looking for a taxi, we headed straight to watch the sunset, which only half worked out, a small mountain stole the last rays of sunshine from us earlier. In general, you can tell that it is still low season everywhere, because even at Grandfather's Beach, where we watched the sunset, there was almost no one there, let alone in all the restaurants. For dinner, we went to a detox bar, where I had a delicious vegan pomegranate-vegetable bowl. After a day with only breakfast, you also get hungry in the evening, but we never want to waste time eating lunch and prefer to explore around.
The next day, we explored Koh Samui again with the scooter. We visited various Buddha statues, a temple on a small mountain, this time we could ride up with the scooter, and a waterfall. The weather is also not disappointing us, sun sun sun, warm warm warm, 10 minutes of rain, sun sun sun. It should stay that way, because the little cooling off in between feels very good. In the evening, the program was Fisherman's Village and we were lucky because it was night market. So we strolled around, admired all the stands, and enjoyed great street food at the street food market. The alleyways were full of people and everyone was in a good mood. We ate at various stands, always with small portions. Baked potato, Thai kebab, samosa, mango cocktails and sweet dessert. The dessert was somehow a baked and fried coconut ball. Very tasty, although not as tasty as the sweet potato balls on the reservoir tour, but unfortunately we haven't discovered them again so far.
In the dark, we made our way back to the accommodation, and we were lucky that after we were back in the accommodation and had showered, it rained very heavily in the night and we wouldn't have wanted to be outside. Now it's time to move on to the next island, where the motto might be to relax a bit more, because the islands are getting smaller and smaller, although there are still two highlights for me to come, but more on that later. First, it's time for breakfast (Saturday, November 2, 2019, 08:50 am).
