Dancing with the crocodiles

Басылган: 07.10.2018

Only the early bird catches the worm or sees a crocodile.

We are slowly getting used to the rhythm of life in Australia. 5:30 am is wake-up time, 6:20 am is when the bus leaves for the boat. Sunrise at Yellow Water. It was simply amazing. So many animals, a beautiful landscape, a funny guide, and so many crocodiles - simply gorgeous. The 2 hours flew by.

Short fact about Yellow Water: it is a billabong (which I explained yesterday) where the water looks yellow at sunrise. Abundant with animals.

After a delicious breakfast, it's time to say goodbye to the great campsite. Next destination: Nitmiluk National Park.

In retrospect and with today's knowledge, we would rent a 4WD for a visit to Kakadu National Park, as all the great highlights (e.g. Jim Jim Falls) can only be reached via 4WD roads.

But it is what it is, you have to choose between seeing things and camping on the roof of the car or enjoying comfort with air conditioning.

Although it's so hot here at the moment, that even the air conditioning doesn't help much anymore.

As you could tell from my previous lines, we haven't seen any waterfalls yet, but that should change on our drive to our next destination.

The Edith Falls is said to be an impressive waterfall that you must see. Accessible by car and only 150 m from the parking lot. The Edith Falls feed a small natural pool, which is currently free of crocodiles. So, put on your bathing suits and refresh yourself a bit. It feels good. However, the waterfall is quite modest. But it doesn't matter, we finally saw one.

The heat is very exhausting. It's constantly around 40 degrees. Luckily, it's only another 50 minutes to the campsite in the middle of the nature reserve. At our nightly BBQ, there was even live music this time. And that in the middle of nowhere.
