Today we had to get up at 3:50 am to catch the first buses that go to the Machu Picchu ruins (which, by the way, means old mountain). However, we were already woken up earlier by the roosters. 😖🍗😁
The buses don't leave until 5:30 am, but you should be at the bus station no later than 4:30 am, as the line of waiting gets too long later. At the entrance, we looked for a German-speaking guide and walked through the ruins at sunrise. At first, there were still clouds hanging between the valleys, which gave the whole place a mystical atmosphere.
Later, the sun burned hot in the sky.
After the tour of the ruins, we still climbed Mount Machu Picchu, whose summit is 600 m higher than the ruins. It was an extremely steep and therefore extremely exhausting ascent.
But the view from above of the ruins was fantastic.
The descent was no less strenuous and halfway down our knees were trembling. We were glad to be back on the ground.
In the evening, we just went to eat something.
